This novel covers three time periods, showing the lives of three women and the ownership of a chocolate pot. Going backwards in time, the first episode is when the pot is shattered. Sara is a chocolatier from a family of chocolatiers and we see her relationship with her husband and their friend back from when they first met and the secrets kept between them. The second episode goes back to the 19th century with Aurora, who has been raised by a wealthy family after the death of her mother, a maid in the house during her birth. She has risen above her station and is now married. The third story goes back to the original owner and gifting of the chocolate pot in Barcelona to Mariana, whose husband has made an invention that produces fabulous chocolate and the secret she is keeping. At the end of the book, the author details the historical events and people that are in the book.
