I loved the book. It is a great reference tool to expand knowledge of Puerto Rican Spanish. Although used it is in brand new condition.August 12, 2022 update: I actually bought a used copy here at Amazon for $5 plus shipping, after I had already purchased a first copy at another website at the mininum bid price of $79. So I am happy I waited until a very fair, and relatively fairer, price appeared, respectively.Original post: This is a great book and I would buy it if it were still in print or available at a good price. But given that this is not the case (sellers are asking too much for the book and it's an old 1998 book), you are better off buying one of 11 other Puerto Rican idioms/sayings/proverbs books that are currently available via Amazon that range in price from $9 to $36 that are really great and won't cost you an arm and a leg. And they have many of the same idioms, sayings, proverbs, witticisms, that are contained in this book. Still, this book is excellent for a scholar of Puerto Rican proverbs/idioms/etc. Many are dated and the book does not include modern idioms since it was published in 1997. The exhorbitant price used books sellers are asking is prohibitive for non-affluent buyers. This book should be republished to make it affordable for those interested in Puerto Rican culture. This book is so good, that I have a copy of it in near mint condition (which I purchased in the late nineties) and, looking at how high its value has gone, I STILL won't part with it. It is an excellent source of coloquial knowledge presented in a jovial and entertaining way. Perfect for mixed marriages, where one spouse is Puerto Rican and the other isn't, and the kids are being raised outside the Island. Everything from idioms, to little gem refrains, to phrases known to every Puerto Rican who has ever lived. Complete with literal translations, AND their Anglo equivalents. For instance, "camarón que se duerme, se lo lleva la corriente" means "tha shrimp that falls asleep is dragged by the current, "and its closest English equivalent would be "you snooze, you loose." Small phrases, and one-word slangs (vulgar ones too!) included. I love my copy!
