Love everything about it. See headlineThis is my 2nd grinder of this model. The first, from 2011, was smooth and well-made, and worked for 10 years before the grind mechanism seized and I decided to purchase the newer, smaller version. This version is poorly made, feels cheap in hand and I don't have much faith that it will last 10 years like the last one. The wooden body is rough and has unrefined edges at the bottom where it meets the metal, and the grind size adjustment wheel is really tight. If it stops working, I'll probably not choose this model again without testing it in person. This elegant pepper mill is fine and functional craftsmanship. It is easy to fill, adjust the grind, and use. Its grind is uniform at any setting, and it is comfortable to hold and twist. It dispenses ground pepper evenly without overspreading. The ground pepper's flavor is bright. This mill is well worth its high price.I had lusted after the Madras from the first time I saw it in a magazine. It has elegant curves, and the combination of dark stained wood with stainless base give a modern edge to a traditional look. This is my first "high-end" pepper mill, and for the price these things go for, they need to perform from kitchen to table. I'm an avid foodie and cook all the time, so all my kitchen gadgets go through extreme testing. I've only been using this for about a month now, but I am very pleased with the operation. Easy to load, easy to adjust the grind. Seems like a durable mill as well. In the event this thing fails in any significant way, I'll update my review. On another note,As the previous reviewer stated, the Peugeot Madras does not come in any additional packaging other than the box Amazon ships in, which may make giving it as a gift less than ideal. (Although, I don't think Peugeot peppermills come in boxes even in stores. Anyone confirm this?)That said, mine arrived in perfect shape. I would be surprised to hear if those folks who receive this as a gift don't soon forget about the packing, and instead are delighted by this stylish yet functional mill.I bought this to replace a battery-operated grinder that fell apart. I love this new grinder. It looks beautiful. It operates smoothly. I love the different grind settings. It seems to be built well, but I need to use it more. It's pricey which is why I gave it 3 stars for Value but at the end of the day, I think Value for money is subjective.Work of art... it really does a good job. Adds a lot of class to my kitchenWell made and beautiful in my kitchen! This happens to be a really classy pepper mill if such a word can be used to describe this kind of thing. My husband the cook in the family was immediately impressed by this grinder. He loved how the wood accent made this stand out in our all white and stainless kitchen. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it seemed a teeny bit stiff while grinding the peppercorns but we are just assuming that with time it will loosen up.The mechanism in this Peugeot pepper mill is solid and reliable. The volume of peppercorns is good. I've had one for years and it sees near-daily use, so I bought another one as a gift. For the price, I expected a cardboard box, fancy fabric bag or some other wrapper. Instead, when you open the Amazon outer, you get the product in an unsealed clear polythene bag with a rubber band to keep the bag in place. We could be forgiven for inferring that Amazon has a big crate of these things. Its not a luxury item presentation; its a "grasp every penny of profit we can get" presentation - pity. And yes, I do know that Peugeot don't present their cars to customers in a fancy box.I've wanted a Peugeot grinder for a long time. My Dad has one that's been in use for more than 40 years. This looked like a good update on the design.Magnetic lid, so nothing to unscrew. Grind setting at the base, so you're not turning the part which is used to adjust it. Visible markings on the grind setting, so you can see what it's set to.If I have a gripe, it's that you have to remember to turn the upper part of the base to grind, as the adjustment is the lower part. But that's just a quibble. We managed to get this as an Amazon "warehouse deal" for a true bargain price. It's superb in every way, holding plenty of peppercorns and grinding them as finely or coarsely as we need, producing lots of ground pepper with little effort. The only slight quibble is regarding the design, whereby the adjustment for the fineness of the grind can rather too easily be moved whilst grinding, since it is at the very bottom of the mill.Good purchase which works extremely well.Doesn't jam up,Hasn't brokenand it grinds very well and fine but not to fine!So far this mill is excellent the gradings for fine to coarse works really well. The item looks and feels really good. I am really pleased with this and would reccommend.
